Lipoprotein Particle Profile

Specimen Collection and Packaging Instructions

Advanced Testing for Cardiovascular Risk

Fasting is required (9 – 12 hours).

  1. Collect one 4 ml red top tube of blood.
  2. Let clot 20-30 minutes but no more than 1 hour.
  3. Centrifuge at 3000 rpm for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Pour serum into transfer vial. DO NOT FREEZE.
  5. Label vial with patient name and date and affix sticker from requisition.
  6. Place transfer vial into sponge. (Up to 3 patient transfer vials may be placed in one sponge).
  7. The sponge and absorbent tissue are placed into the biohazard bag and sealed.
  8. The completed requisition is put into the outside pocket of the biohazard bag.
  9. Place the biohazard bag into Styrofoam lined cardboard box.
  10. The frozen ice brick is placed on top of biohazard band.
  11. Replace the Styrofoam lid before closing box.

    Sample must remain refrigerated in transit via frozen “brick” supplied in each LPP kit. Please be certain brick is frozen at time of draw.

  12. Insert the box into the Lab Pack envelope, seal and affix the FedEx or DHL airbill at the indicated spot. (Up to 3 boxes may be placed in one Lab Pack envelope or may be combined with FIA boxes.)
  13. Complete the “Shipper” portion of the airbill.
  14. When shipping Fed Ex packages, place the “Hold Saturday at Fed Ex Location” sticker on the envelope.
